Spring Cleaning

Take the following steps to make sure your pond looks and runs good for the summer:

  • Check and clean your filter and pump. Even if they look clean, if they were running during the previous season, they most likely need a little attention.
  • Check your hoses thoroughly for holes or cracks, and check connections for leaks. The last thing you want is turn on your equipment, leave for the day, and come home to find your yard soggy and your pond dry.
  • Make sure pumps that were stored inside for the winter are working properly. After drying out, seals may become brittle and break.
  • Avoid the temptation to feed your fish until the water temperature maintains a stable 55 degrees F at night. Waiting reduces the risk of fouling the water with uneaten food.
